From English Studies to leading in a male-dominated sector, Miriam’s journey is a beautiful example of a woman with strength and ambition! While she has been focusing on her career, she reached a point where she felt female energy was missing in her life. When she discovered After5, it felt like the perfect opportunity to connect with other like-minded women. Miriam is 36 and lives in Munich.
Currently, I am the head of purchasing for a German manufacturing company and I hence work in a technical and male-dominated sector. This has not always been the case though. I started out with a bachelor and master’s degree in English Studies – so I was actually a linguist! But through my first job, I fell in love with supply-chain-management and began building my career in this field.
I took several further trainings and completed my MBA program a year ago to solidify my knowledge and skill set in the area of economics. This just goes to show how much is possible, when we decide to pursue our goals and put in the required effort. Whether it is in our professional or personal lives – whatever we really want to achieve is possible. I can only encourage everyone to carve out their own path, strive towards their aspirations and ask for guidance or assistance along the way.
While building my career, I realized that I really want to balance it with a circle of ambitious women with whom I can share all aspects of life. Although I am driven in my profession, I always kept my softer side and I love going out for drinks to just chat and laugh together with female friends.
To me, after5 is the perfect platform to meet like-minded women, who are ambitious and yet still kind and open to making new friends. No matter which after5 date I went to, the other women were always absolutely lovely and came from various interesting walks of life. It was often as if we had met each other before – there was an almost instant connection between us. Female friendships are incredibly valuable and irreplaceable to me. There is just something very special about them, I think.
This is also why I would like to offer after5 tables in Augsburg starting January. I would love to meet other women from my favorite city and exchange about anything and everything that is important to us. I would be very happy to meet you there and connect!
